Global Ambassadors NYC day one

Intro “on a personal note”

I have been leading youth delegations to and from NYC since 2008 and i am currently back in NYC with the 9^th or 10^th group from Berlin (who´s counting anymore). After all of the experiences we have been able to gather over the years i have to admit that this year had a distinctly different feel to it. After our country has elected to nominate a candidate who campaigned on an openly bigoted (downright racist) platform to the highest office in the land our departure suddenly felt different and somewhat scary. True, Donald Trump won´t become President until January of next year but what about the people of NYC (and the rest of the country) who seem to be so far apart these days? We look forward to reporting a lot more along these lines as our Ambassadors set out to embark on field research in order to find answers to these important questions facing us all.

Tonight we will meet the NYC Global Ambassadors at Guttman Community College to plan our research trip and the coming days. Tomorrow we are very excited to join College and High School students from throughout NYC to talk Trump and politics here and in Europe. Today however, we find ourselves amongst tourists from all over the world as we are indulging in some serious sightseeing.

Ich organisiere nun bereits seit 2008 Jugendaustauschprojekte von und nach Berlin und NYC und ich bin derzeit wieder zurück in NYC mit der 9ten oder 10ten Gruppe aus Berlin (wer zählt noch). Nach all den Erfahrungen die wir über die Jahre sammeln konnten muss ich sagen, dass sich die diesjährige Reise sehr viel anders anfühlt als die davor. Seitdem unser Land sich entschloss einen Kandidaten der auf einer rassistischen und fremdenfeindlichen Plattform kandidierte ins höchste Amt des Landes zu heben, fühlte sich unsere bevorstehende Abreise aus Deutschland plötzlich ziemlich gruselig an. Natürlich wird Donald Trump erst im kommenden Januar President aber wie steht es mit den Leuten die so gespalten wie nie zu sein scheinen (in NYC und im Rest des Landes). Wir freuen uns darauf mehr über diese Dinge zu schildern nun wo unsere Botschafter sich in der Stadt auf den Weg machen um zu diesen Themen zu forschen.

Heute Abend treffen wir uns mit den NYC Botschaftern im Guttman Community College um unsere Forschungen und die bevorstehenden Tage vorzubereiten. Morgen werden wir uns mit Studenten und Schülern aus verschiedenen Schulen in NYC, in der Fordham Universität in der Bronx treffen um über Trump und Politik zu diskutieren. Heute finden wir uns allerdings inmitten von Touristen aus der ganzen Welt wieder, während wir uns Sights angucken.
